Time-Limit Crisis and Counsel
तस्मिन्नतीते काले तु सुग्रीवेण कृते स्वयम्।प्रायोपवेशनं युक्तं सर्वेषां च वनौकसाम्।।।।
tasminn atīte kāle tu sugrīveṇa kṛte svayam | prāyopaveśanaṃ yuktaṃ sarveṣāṃ ca vanaukasām ||
既然修格利婆亲自所定之期已过,我们所有林居者皆宜行 prāyopaveśana——绝食而至死。
'Now that the time limit fixed by Sugriva has expired, the right thing to do for the monkeys is to fast unto death.
Dharma is portrayed as accepting consequences and seeking expiation when one has failed a solemn, time-bound duty.
Angada proposes prāyopaveśana because the deadline set by Sugriva has been exceeded and the mission remains unfulfilled.
Atonement-minded rigor—readiness to bear the cost of failure rather than evade responsibility.
