Praise of Hanumān and the Gift of the Signet Ring
vyavasāyaś ca te vīra sattvayuktaś ca vikramaḥ | sugrīvasya ca saṃdeśaḥ siddhiṃ kathayatīva me || 4.44.14 ||
The foremost among the monkeys took the ring given to him, placed it on his forehead and saluated it with folded palms. He then prostrated at the feet of Rama and departed.
Dharma is perseverance in righteous duty: resolve (vyavasāya) and courageous strength (sattva, vikrama) are praised as means to fulfill a just mission.
Rāma reassures Hanumān, reading his determination and Sugrīva’s commission as auspicious signs of success in finding Sītā.
Hanumān’s steadfast courage and disciplined initiative.
