Instructions for the Western Search Party
तारायाः पितरं राजा श्वशुरं भीमविक्रमम्।अब्रवीत्प्राञ्जलिर्वाक्यमभिगम्य प्रणम्य च।।4.42.2।।
tārāyāḥ pitaraṃ rājā śvaśuraṃ bhīmavikramaṃ |
abravīt prāñjalir vākyaṃ abhigamya praṇamya ca ||4.42.2||
于是苏格里瓦王走近塔拉的父亲——他自己那令人敬畏的岳父——双手合十向他致敬,并说了这些话。
'There the monkeys may roam about the Ketaka shrubs, tamala thickets and coconut groves.
Dharma here is maryādā—proper conduct: a ruler approaches an elder with humility, salutation, and respectful speech, showing that authority should be tempered by reverence and self-restraint.
After the search for Sītā is being organized, Sugrīva formally approaches an elder (Tārā’s father) to address him respectfully, indicating consultation and orderly command within the vānara leadership.
Vinaya (humility) and gurusammāna (honoring elders): Sugrīva’s folded hands and salutation highlight respectful leadership.
