Visvamitra’s Austerity Obstructed; Menaka Episode; Conferment of Maharshi Status
अथ काले गते तस्मिन्विश्वामित्रो महामुनि:।सव्रीड इव सम्वृत्तश्चिन्ताशोकपरायण:।।।।
atha kāle gate tasmin viśvāmitro mahāmuniḥ | savrīḍa iva saṃvṛttaś cintāśokaparāyaṇaḥ ||
当那段时日过去后,大圣毗湿瓦密多仿佛生出羞惭,沉溺于忧思与哀愁之中。
"O Descendant of Raghu! while that woman of an exalted race lived in the hermitage of Viswamitra, ten years rolled by happily".
Moral awakening and accountability: recognizing one’s lapse and feeling remorse is the first step back toward Dharma and truthful self-assessment (satya toward oneself).
After years of distraction, Viśvāmitra comes to a painful awareness of what has happened and is overcome by shame and grief.
Conscience and self-judgment (ātma-viveka): despite the fall, Viśvāmitra’s inner clarity re-emerges.
