Ravana’s Self-Praise and the Description of Lanka
O lady of fine complexion, Rama is a (mere) mortal. In war he is no match (even) for my finger. It is your good fortune that you have got me here. Take refuge in me.
Dharma critiques arrogance (mada) and coercive power-claims; satya is not self-glorification but alignment with right. Rāvaṇa’s boast exemplifies adharma through pride and intimidation.
Rāvaṇa boasts of martial superiority and urges Sītā to accept him as protector and refuge.
Sītā’s steadfast loyalty and refusal to accept unrighteous ‘refuge’ grounded in adharma.
