The Greatness of Haridvāra
Gaṅgādvāra-māhātmya
मरणं स्वप्रियायास्तु वीरभद्रं विनिर्ममे । स सर्वैः प्रमथैर्युक्तस्तं यज्ञं समनाशयत् ॥ १६ ॥
maraṇaṃ svapriyāyāstu vīrabhadraṃ vinirmame | sa sarvaiḥ pramathairyuktastaṃ yajñaṃ samanāśayat || 16 ||
因其挚爱逝去,他化生出毗罗跋陀罗;毗罗跋陀罗与一切普罗摩他众相随,将那场祭祀(yajña)彻底摧毁。
Narada (narrating to Sanatkumara in the Uttara-Bhaga context)
Vrata: none
Primary Rasa: raudra
Secondary Rasa: karuna
It underscores that ritual (yajña) without reverence and right conduct collapses into adharma; the rise of Vīrabhadra symbolizes the corrective force that restores cosmic order when sacred boundaries are violated.
By implication, it teaches that devotion is inseparable from honoring the divine and devotees; when pride or disrespect replaces humility, even grand religious acts lose their merit and invite ruin.
It points to correct ritual discipline (kalpa/śrauta conduct): a yajña is not merely performance but requires proper honoring of participants and deities—otherwise the rite becomes defective and fruitless.
