It declares that the prescribed act(s) just described have redemptive power strong enough to uplift even a being in the preta-condition, granting a higher post-mortem destination—svarga—and exalted merit comparable to Indra’s.
While the verse speaks in the language of results (svarga-gati), its underlying puranic logic is that sincere performance aligned with dharma—typically supported by devotion, faith (śraddhā), and remembrance of the divine—can transform even adverse karmic states into auspicious attainments.
The emphasis is on ritual efficacy and correct performance (karma-kāṇḍa discipline): doing the prescribed act ‘in this way’ points to procedural exactness—an applied aspect of kalpa (ritual method) and śikṣā/vyākaraṇa-assisted correct recitation where mantras are involved.
