Adhyaya 93 — The Goddess’s Boons to Suratha and the Merchant (Conclusion of the Devi Mahatmyam)
evaṃ devyā varaṃ labdhvā surathaḥ kṣatriyarṣabhaḥ | sūryāj janma samāsādya sāvarṇir bhavitā manuḥ ||
The Purāṇa models ideal rulership and devotion: righteous kingship is validated and restored by the divine, and sustained devotion can culminate in service at the scale of an age (manvantara).
Manvantara and Vamśa (connection to Sūrya/Vivasvat) are foregrounded, embedded within Carita (Suratha’s story).
Suratha’s transition from a dispossessed king to Manu encodes an ascent from fragmented authority to integrated cosmic order—Śakti converts suffering into a mandate for dharma at a universal level.
