Adhyaya 46 — Cosmic Dissolution, the Emergence of Brahma, and the Measures of Time (Yugas, Manvantaras, and Brahma’s Day)
विंशतिश्च सहस्राणि कालोऽयं साधिकं विना ।
एतन्मन्वन्तरं प्रोक्तं दिव्यैर्वर्षैर्निबोध मे ॥
viṃśatiś ca sahasrāṇi kālo 'yaṃ sādhikaṃ vinā | etan manvantaraṃ proktaṃ divyair varṣair nibodha me ||
此一时期为二万年,不含所增补之分。你当从我处知晓:以天界年数衡量时,这便被称为一劫期(manvantara)。
Different ‘clocks’ (human/divine) coexist in Purāṇic cosmology; the teaching is to see reality from multiple scales rather than a single anthropocentric measure.
Manvantara: the verse gives its duration in a particular unit (divine years), a typical Purāṇic chronographic feature.
‘Divine years’ imply a higher-order rhythm; contemplatively, it suggests aligning one’s mind to subtler time (inner cycles) beyond ordinary temporal anxiety.
