Identification of the Pāṇḍavas in Virāṭa’s Court
दृष्टवा प्रयातांस्तु कुरून् किरीटी ह्ृष्टोडब्रवीत् तत्र स मत्स्यपुत्रम् । आवर्तयाश्वान् पशवो जितास्ते याता: परे याहि पुरं प्रह्ृष्ट:
dṛṣṭvā prayātāṁs tu kurūn kirīṭī hṛṣṭo 'bravīt tatra sa matsyaputram | āvartayāśvān paśavo jitās te yātāḥ pare yāhi puraṁ prahṛṣṭaḥ ||
见俱卢军退却,戴冠的阿周那满怀喜悦,当场对摩蹉王之子乌塔罗说道:“调转马头。你的牛群已夺回,敌人也已逃遁;因此欢然入城吧。”
वैशम्पायन उवाच
Victory should be purposeful and restrained: once the rightful aim (recovering the cattle and securing safety) is achieved and the enemy has withdrawn, one should stop further aggression and return in orderly, responsible conduct.
After the Kauravas flee, Arjuna—still incognito in Virāṭa’s service—tells Prince Uttara to turn the chariot horses back and return to the city, since the cattle have been recovered and the danger has passed.
