Educational Q&A

The verse underscores dharma in the form of tīrtha-yātrā and tarpaṇa: repeatedly honoring gods, ancestors, and brahmins. Even in hardship, righteous life is maintained through gratitude, ritual responsibility, and reverence for sacred places and learned persons.

During their forest exile, the Pāṇḍavas move through a sequence of pilgrimage sites—Kanyātīrtha, Aśvatīrtha, Gavāṃtīrtha, Kālakotī, and the hill Vṛṣaprastha—performing offerings that satisfy gods, ancestors, and brahmins, and residing there as part of their disciplined journey.
