Educational Q&A

The passage elevates Prayāga’s confluence-bath as a concentrated act of dharma: a single ritual of purification is said to yield the same spiritual merit as extensive learning and the lifelong discipline of truthfulness, emphasizing the sanctity of place and the transformative power of sincere pilgrimage.

Pulastya, while describing pilgrimage sites in the Tīrthayātrā section of the Vana Parva, praises Prayāga to a Kuru prince (addressed as Kuru-nandana), declaring the extraordinary presence of innumerable tīrthas there and the exceptional merit of bathing at the Gaṅgā–Yamunā confluence.
