Draupadī on Action, Fate, and Human Effort
यन्न मोहान्न कार्पण्यान्न लोभान्न भयादपि । अनृतं किंचिदुक्त ते न कामान्नार्थकारणात्,“उनका कहना है कि आपने कभी न तो मोहसे, न दीनतासे, न लोभसे, न भयसे, न कामनासे और न धनके ही कारणसे किंचिन्मात्र भी असत्य भाषण किया है
yan na mohān na kārpaṇyān na lobhān na bhayād api | anṛtaṃ kiñcid uktaṃ te na kāmān nārtha-kāraṇāt ||
毗湿摩波耶那说道:“他们宣称:陛下从未说过哪怕一丝虚妄之言——不因迷惑,不因怯懦,不因贪欲,甚至不因恐惧;不为情欲,也不为任何财利。”
वैशम्पायन उवाच
The verse praises satya (truthfulness) as a stable virtue: a truly righteous person does not resort to falsehood under inner weaknesses (delusion, cowardice) or external pressures (fear), nor for temptations (desire, profit).
Vaiśampāyana reports what others are saying about the addressed person’s character—specifically, that the person’s reputation for unwavering truthfulness is so strong that no common motive for lying is found in them.
