मार्कण्डेय उवाच
Adharma driven by greed brings collective ruin and lasting dishonor; the righteous response foregrounds moral clarity and grief over vengeance, acknowledging the weight of family-ethics (kula-dharma) and the tragic consequences of betrayal.
In Mārkaṇḍeya’s narration, Bharata addresses his mother as one who has defiled the lineage and says she may be ‘satisfied’ by placing disgrace upon his head; immediately after speaking, he breaks down and weeps, expressing the moral shock and sorrow caused by her wrongdoing.
