अग्निर्यश्न शिवो नाम शक्तिपूजापरश्न सः | दुःखार्तानां च सर्वेषां शिवकृत्‌ सततं शिव:,'शिव” नामसे प्रसिद्ध जो अग्नि हैं, वे शक्तिकी आराधनामें लगे रहते हैं। समस्त दुःखातुर मनुष्योंका सदा ही शिव (कल्याण) करते हैं, इसलिये उन्हें 'शिव” कहते हैं

agnir yaḥ śivo nāma śaktipūjāparaś ca saḥ | duḥkhārtānāṃ ca sarveṣāṃ śivakṛt satataṃ śivaḥ ||

马尔坎德耶说道:“那位以‘湿婆’(Śiva)之名著称的火,恒常奉行对‘沙克蒂’(Śakti,神力/女神)的敬拜。他不断为一切受忧苦所迫者带来安泰与吉祥;因此称为‘湿婆’——施惠的吉祥者。”
