The verse highlights dharma through ritual responsibility and moral repair: grave wrongdoing (brahma-hatyā) calls for expiation, and such atonement should be undertaken with disciplined senses and a sincere intention, even for the sake of another.
A speaker named Avaviyu addresses a respected person, urging him to conduct a satra (a long sacrificial session) for the wise Bṛhaddyumna, while Avaviyu himself vows to undertake the demanding expiation associated with brahma-slaughter, explicitly stating it is done for the other’s benefit and with self-restraint.
