Bhāgīratha’s Tapas and the Petition to Gaṅgā (गङ्गावतरण-प्रसङ्गः)
षष्टि: पुत्रसहस्राणि तस्याप्रतिमतेजस: । रुद्रप्रसादाद् राजर्षे: समजायन्त पार्थिव,फिर पुत्रोंकी रक्षाके लिये तत्पर हो सबके लिये पृथक्-पृथक् धायें नियुक्त कर दीं। तदनन्तर दीर्घकालके पश्चात् उस अनुपम तेजस्वी नरेशके साठ हजार महाबली पुत्र उन घड़ोंमेंसे निकल आये। युधिष्छिर! राजर्षि सगरके वे सभी पुत्र भगवान् शिवकी कृपासे ही उत्पन्न हुए थे
ṣaṣṭiḥ putrasahasrāṇi tasyāpratimatejasaḥ | rudraprasādād rājarṣeḥ samajāyanta pārthiva ||
大王啊,时至其时,那位光辉无比的王仙便得六万子嗣。其出生皆由鲁陀罗(湿婆)之恩所致,昭示即便王权与血脉,终究也要依凭神恩与能招致神恩的功德。
लोगश उवाच
The verse highlights dependence on divine grace: even a mighty king’s progeny and success are not merely products of human effort but arise through Rudra’s favor, implying humility, devotion, and dharmic conduct as conditions that invite such grace.
The speaker states that, after a long time, sixty thousand sons were born to the radiant royal sage (Sagara), and that their birth occurred through the grace of Rudra (Śiva), setting up the subsequent events involving these sons in the Sagara narrative.
