Schemes rooted in deceit—especially against a righteous messenger like Kṛṣṇa—carry an inherent moral dread (ghoratā) and destabilize the mind. Even when outward power supports wrongdoing, conscience and fear of adharma can surface as inner agitation and dejection.
After Duryodhana’s frightening proposal concerning Kṛṣṇa (a plot to trick or harm him), the narrator reports Dhṛtarāṣṭra’s reaction: he and his ministers are shaken and become despondent, indicating anxiety about the consequences of such a plan.
