Udyoga Parva, Chapter 81: Krishna Sets Out as Envoy

The verse frames the ethical contrast between dharma and political deceit: Kṛṣṇa is reminded that he already knows both the wrongdoing—Duryodhana’s deceptive deprivation of the Pāṇḍavas—and the confidential diplomatic counsel exchanged through Saṃjaya, highlighting that righteous judgment must consider both actions and intentions in statecraft.
Vaiśampāyana addresses Kṛṣṇa, summarizing prior events: Duryodhana, with his ministers, wronged the Pāṇḍavas through deceit; Dhṛtarāṣṭra privately instructed Saṃjaya with a confidential message to deliver to Yudhiṣṭhira; and Yudhiṣṭhira’s response to Saṃjaya has also been heard—setting the stage for further negotiation and the looming conflict.
