Udyoga Parva, Chapter 81: Krishna Sets Out as Envoy
विदितं ते महाबाहो धर्मज्ञ मधुसूदन । यथा निकृतिमास्थाय भ्रृशिता: पाण्डवा: सुखात्
viditaṁ te mahābāho dharmajña madhusūdana | yathā nikṛtim āsthāya bhraṁśitāḥ pāṇḍavāḥ sukhāt ||
毗舍三跋耶那曰:“大臂的摩度苏陀那、知法者啊,你早已知晓:般度诸子因彼辈依恃诡诈,而被逐离其本应享有的安乐。”
वैशम्पायन उवाच
The verse frames the Pāṇḍavas’ suffering as the result of nikṛti (deceit), implicitly contrasting such conduct with dharma. It reminds the listener that ethical judgment in political conflict hinges on whether actions are rooted in righteousness or in fraud.
Vaiśampāyana addresses Kṛṣṇa (Madhusūdana), stating that Kṛṣṇa already knows the background: the Pāṇḍavas were deprived of their rightful happiness through treachery—setting the stage for the diplomatic and moral tensions of the Udyoga Parva.
