Drupada’s Instruction to the Purohita for the Kaurava Embassy (द्रुपदोपदेशः दूतप्रेषणम्)
vidureṇānunīto 'pi putram evānuvartate | śakunir buddhipūrvaṃ hi kuntīputraṃ samāhvayat | iti śrīmahābhārate udyogaparvaṇi senodyogaparvaṇi purohitayāne ṣaṣṭho 'dhyāyaḥ |
Wise counsel alone does not reform a leader who is bound by attachment and partiality; when judgment is captured by loyalty to one’s own (here, a father’s alignment with his son), manipulative strategists can steer events toward conflict.
Drupada observes that despite Vidura’s attempts to restrain the Kaurava side through ethical counsel, the decision-makers continue to follow Duryodhana’s line; meanwhile Śakuni, acting deliberately, has summoned a son of Kuntī (a Pāṇḍava), signaling calculated political escalation in the run-up to war.
