Duryodhana’s Reassurance and Force-Praise to Dhritarashtra
yukto duḥkhoṣitaś cāhaṃ vidyāpāragatas tathā | tasmān na bhīmān nānyebhyo bhayaṃ me vidyate kvacit ||
The verse highlights how disciplined training and mastery can generate fearlessness, but in the Mahābhārata’s ethical frame it also warns that martial competence, when joined with pride, can harden one’s resolve toward unjust conflict and blind one to consequences.
In Udyoga Parva, as war preparations intensify, Duryodhana asserts that he has mastered weapon-knowledge through arduous training and therefore does not fear Bhīma or any other fighter—an expression of defiance and overconfidence amid failed peace efforts.
