Educational Q&A

The verse highlights how power in war should be governed by protection and command: an army becomes ethically effective when its force is disciplined—steady when restraint is needed and forceful when action is required.

Vaiśampāyana describes the Pāṇḍavas’ host under Dhṛṣṭadyumna’s protection, portraying its movements as alternating between stillness and forward surge, like the Gaṅgā when full—conveying both readiness and momentum before the great conflict.
