Ulūka’s Provocation and Keśava’s Counter-Message (उलूकदूत्ये केशवप्रत्युत्तरम्)
तद् वृथा च सभामध्ये वल्गितं ते वृकोदर | “भारत! युद्धभूमिमें मेरे हाथसे मारे जाकर तुम गदाको छातीसे लगाये सदाके लिये सो जाओगे। वृकोदर! तुमने सभामें जाकर जो उछल-कूद मचायी थी
sañjaya uvāca | tad vṛthā ca sabhāmadhye valgitam te vṛkodara | bhārata yuddhabhūmau me hastena mārito gatvā tvaṃ gadāṃ chātasi saṃśliṣya sadā-kṛte suptvā śayiṣyase | vṛkodara tvayā sabhāṃ gatvā yad uccal-kūdaṃ kṛtaṃ tad vṛthaiva | ulūka nakulaṃ brūhi vacanān mama bhārata | ulūka nakulasya api vada—bhārata mama vacanāt idānīṃ sthiratayā yuddhaṃ kuru | vayaṃ tava pauruṣaṃ drakṣyāmaḥ | yudhiṣṭhire prati tava anurāgaṃ mayi ca vardhamānaṃ dveṣaṃ draupadyāś ca kleśaṃ ca etān ahāni samyak smara |

संजय उवाच
The passage illustrates how speech can be used unethically as a weapon: by recalling past injuries and loyalties, a speaker can inflame hatred and push opponents toward rash violence. It contrasts steadiness (sthiratā) in battle with the destabilizing force of taunts rooted in dveṣa (hatred).
Sanjaya reports a hostile message: the speaker mocks Bhima’s earlier boasting in the assembly and threatens death on the battlefield. He then instructs Uluka to deliver similar goading words to Nakula—urging him to fight firmly while remembering his loyalty to Yudhishthira, his enmity toward the speaker, and Draupadi’s suffering.
