Rājapurohita-lakṣaṇa and Purūravas–Vāyu Saṃvāda

Varṇa, Sovereignty, and Abhaya-dāna

tasya dharmasya sarvasya bhāgī rājapurohitaḥ |

Educational Q&A

Righteous kingship is upheld by humility and receptivity to wise counsel; therefore the royal priest, who guides the king in dharma, becomes a participant in the king’s total dharmic merit and responsibility.

Aila states a principle of rājadharma: when a learned king remains devoted to kṣatriya-duty and listens to his purohita without ego, he gains lasting fame, and the royal priest is counted as sharing in the king’s dharma.
