Bhīṣma’s Śara-śayyā Stuti to Vāsudeva and Yogic Preparation for Dehotsarga
Body-Relinquishment
सर्वभूतात्मभूताय भूतादिनिधनाय च । अक्रोधद्रोहमोहाय तस्मै शान्तात्मने नम:
sarvabhūtātmabhūtāya bhūtādinidhanāya ca | akrodhadrohamohāya tasmai śāntātmane namaḥ ||
毗湿摩说道:“礼敬那心性寂静者:他成为一切众生之自我,是万有之始亦是万有之终,远离嗔怒、恶意与迷妄。”
भीष्म उवाच
The verse praises the highest spiritual ideal: realizing the One who is the inner Self of all beings and cultivating a mind free from anger, hostility, and delusion. Ethical excellence is grounded in inner tranquility (śānti) and universal identification rather than reactive emotion.
In Śānti Parva, Bhīṣma instructs Yudhiṣṭhira on dharma after the war. Here he offers a reverential salutation (a stuti-like line) to the supreme, tranquil principle—setting a devotional and philosophical tone for teachings on peace, self-mastery, and right conduct.
