Nāga-āyatana-darśana-pratīkṣā — The Brāhmaṇa’s Request and Waiting on the Gomatī
वेदीमष्टनलोत्सेधां भूमावास्थाय विश्वकृत् एकपादस्थितो देव ऊर्ध्वबाहुरुदड्मुख:
vedīm aṣṭa-nalotsedhāṁ bhūmāv āsthāya viśvakṛt | ekapāda-sthito devo ūrdhva-bāhur udaṅmukhaḥ ||
那罗陀说道:“宇宙的创造者在地上设立一座神圣祭坛,高八度量;他登坛而立,独足支身。双臂上举,面向北方,安住于严峻的定力之中——此乃自制与不移之志的象征,亦为正行之根基。”
नारद उवाच
The verse highlights tapas (austerity) as disciplined self-restraint: steadfast posture, controlled orientation, and ritual setting symbolize inner firmness and ethical resolve that support dharma.
Nārada describes the Creator performing a severe ascetic observance: he mounts a raised altar, stands on one foot, lifts his arms, and faces north—depicting a formal, intense act of concentration and penance.
