वैशम्पायन उवाच
This verse functions as a framing cue: it introduces Nārāyaṇa’s forthcoming speech to Nārada, indicating that the next passage will carry the intended instruction—typically oriented toward dharma, right conduct, and spiritual understanding in the Śānti Parva’s didactic setting.
The narrator reports a shift into direct discourse: Nārāyaṇa begins speaking to the sage Nārada at that moment and place, marking the transition from narration to a teaching or counsel delivered through dialogue.
