Nāga-āyatana-darśana-pratīkṣā — The Brāhmaṇa’s Request and Waiting on the Gomatī
sarvathā pāvitāḥ sma iha śrutvemām āditaḥ kathām | hareḥ viśveśvarasya iha sarvapāpapraṇāśanīm ||

The verse teaches the purifying power of śravaṇa—devout listening to the sacred narrative of Hari, the universal Lord. Hearing such kathā from the beginning is presented as ethically transformative, removing pāpa (moral stain) and establishing inner purity.
Janamejaya responds to the recitation by affirming its effect on the listeners: the assembly has become purified by hearing the complete account. He praises the narrative as Hari’s kathā, characterized as universally sovereign and capable of destroying all sins.
