Systems of Knowledge and Vyāsa’s Nārāyaṇa-Origin
na sa śavyaḥ tv abhaktena draṣṭuṃ devaḥ kathaṃcana | munayo! yūyaṃ yathāgatāḥ, tathaiva śīghraṃ nivartata | bhagavati ananyabhaktim antareṇa kasyacid api kathaṃcid api tasya sākṣād-darśanaṃ na bhavati || kāmaṃ kālena mahatā ekāntitvam upāgataiḥ |
Direct vision of the Lord (sākṣāt-darśana) is not attainable through mere approach, learning, or curiosity; it requires ananyā-bhakti—exclusive, unwavering devotion. The verse stresses that devotion is the decisive qualification for divine encounter.
The Deity addresses a group of sages who have come seeking a vision. He tells them to return as they came, explaining that without exclusive devotion they cannot see Him; only after long time and the attainment of single-minded inward dedication does such a meeting become possible.
