(Nārāyaṇīyam Ākhyānam) — Nārada’s Return and Hymnic Consolidation
sa tathālakṣaṇo jātas tapasā tava sambhṛtaḥ | mama caiva prasādena brahmatejomayaḥ śuciḥ ||
The verse links outcomes to two forces working together: personal discipline (tapas) and the benevolent sanction or grace (prasāda) of an elder/authority. Ethical excellence is signaled by brahma-tejas (spiritual radiance) and śauca (purity), implying that true power is inseparable from inner purity.
Bhishma explains that a previously requested boon has borne fruit: a son with the desired qualities has been born. He attributes this to the recipient’s austerities and to his own favor, emphasizing the son’s spiritual splendor and purity.
