Educational Q&A

The verse highlights dharmic royal conduct: a king should honor sages, inquire about their well-being, and receive them with humility and proper etiquette, recognizing spiritual authority as a guide for righteous governance.

Śuka arrives and asks after the king’s health and that of his attendants. The king, having received instruction/permission, sits respectfully with folded hands and then asks Śuka (Vyāsa’s son) the reason for his auspicious visit.
