Yoga Definition and Sāṃkhya Enumeration

ता: प्राप्प तु स धिग्दण्डो न कारणमतो5भवत्‌ | ततो<भ्यगच्छन देवांश्र ब्राह्मुणांक्षावमन्य ह

tāḥ prāpya tu sa dhigdaṇḍo na kāraṇam ato 'bhavat | tato 'bhyagacchan devāṁś ca brāhmaṇāṁś cāvamanyatha ||

然而,当“谴责之罚”(被众人指斥的惩处)施加于那些迷失正道之人时,它并未成为有效的矫正。其后,人们开始轻慢诸神与婆罗门,随心所欲,恣意沉溺于感官享乐——这标志着维系达摩的克制与敬畏之崩解。

Educational Q&A

Mere condemnation or social censure cannot reform those who are deeply corrupted; when reverence for the divine and for Brahminical/ethical authority collapses, people drift into unchecked sense-indulgence, and dharma loses its practical force.

Parāśara describes a stage of societal decline: a corrective measure described as ‘dhigdaṇḍa’ (punishment by reproach) fails to restrain wrongdoers, after which people openly begin to insult the gods and Brahmins and pursue pleasures according to their own will.
