Śoka-śamana: Kṛṣṇa’s Consolation and Nārada’s Exempla to Sṛñjaya
Chapter 29
स चेन्ममार सूंजय चतुर्भद्रतरस्त्वया । पुत्रात् पुण्यतरश्वैव मा पुत्रमनुतप्यथा:
sa cen mamāra sṛñjaya caturbhadrataras tvayā | putrāt puṇyataras caiva mā putram anutapyathāḥ ||
风神伐由说道:“噢,室利阇耶(Sṛñjaya)啊,若那些具足四种吉祥德行、胜过于你,且功德甚至超过你之子的人,也不能久留此世,那么他人又何足道哉?因此,你不应为你的儿子悲恸。”
वायुदेव उवाच
Even the most virtuous and well-endowed persons cannot escape death; recognizing the universality of impermanence, one should restrain excessive grief and cultivate steadiness of mind.
Vāyudeva addresses King Sṛñjaya, consoling him over his son’s death by pointing out that even people superior in auspicious qualities and merit have passed away; therefore Sṛñjaya should not lament.
