Śoka-śamana: Kṛṣṇa’s Consolation and Nārada’s Exempla to Sṛñjaya
Chapter 29
Arjuna uvāca—sarve sma te saṁśayitāḥ punar eva janārdana | asya śokaṁ mahābāho praṇāśayitum arhasi ||
In moments of moral collapse after violence, dharmic restoration begins with removing paralyzing grief and doubt through wise counsel. Arjuna points to Kṛṣṇa as the ethical guide who can reorient Yudhiṣṭhira from sorrow toward responsible, compassionate kingship.
After the Kurukṣetra war, Yudhiṣṭhira is overwhelmed by sorrow for slain relatives and the burden of the conflict’s consequences. Arjuna addresses Kṛṣṇa (Janārdana), saying that they are again troubled by uncertainty and asking him to dispel Yudhiṣṭhira’s grief.
