Sāṃkhya–Yoga Distinction and Instruction on Yogic Strength

sañcintya ugraṇā tapasā mahātmānaṁ maheśvaram | uśanā yogasiddhātmā śūlāgre pratyadṛśyata ||

Educational Q&A

Spiritual power (yoga-siddhi) is grounded in disciplined austerity and clear discernment—knowing when to withdraw, when to approach, and when to remain steady in one’s rightful place—so that action aligns with dharma rather than agitation or pride.

Uśanā, accomplished in yoga, performs intense tapas and meditates on Śiva; as a result of his yogic attainment he becomes visible at the very tip of Śiva’s trident, highlighting both Śiva’s supremacy and the extraordinary reach of yogic concentration.
