Adhyāya 287 — Janaka’s Inquiry on Śreyas, Abhayadāna, and Asaṅga

यै: कश्चित् सम्मतो लोके गुणैश्न पुरुषो मुने । भवत्यनपगान् सर्वास्तान् गुणान् लक्षयामहे
yaiḥ kaścit sammato loke guṇaiś ca puruṣo mune | bhavaty anapagān sarvās tān guṇān lakṣayāmahe ||
毗湿摩说道:“圣者啊,世间凡能使人受敬重的诸般德行,我从未见你有所欠缺;我在你身上见到它们一一具足。”
भीष्म उवाच
True esteem in society rests on guṇas (virtues), and the wise recognize these qualities as stable traits—praising not status but enduring moral excellence.
Bhishma addresses a sage and offers a formal commendation, stating that all the virtues by which people gain respect in the world are clearly present in the sage without deficiency.
