kathaṃcid upapadyante puruṣe sāttvikā guṇāḥ | yadā rajoguṇakī pravṛttiḥ bhavati tadā buddhiḥ rājasikabhāvasya anusarati | yadi puruṣe kenacid prakāreṇa adhikaḥ harṣaḥ prītiḥ ānandaḥ sukhaṃ ca cittasya śāntiś ca upalabhyate tarhi ete sāttvikā guṇāḥ |
毗湿摩说:在人身上,萨埵(sattva)的品质会以种种方式生起。当罗阇(rajas)的冲动发动时,理智(buddhi)便随顺罗阇性的倾向。然而,若在某人身上,欢悦、爱意、喜乐、安乐以及内心安定的宁静有所增长,就应当明白:这些便是萨埵的品质。
भीष्म उवाच
The verse distinguishes mental dispositions by the guṇas: when rajas is active, the intellect tends toward rajasic patterns; when one experiences heightened joy, affection, happiness, and calmness of mind, these are marks of sattva.
