Aśmagīta: Janaka’s Inquiry on Loss, Kāla, and the Limits of Control (अश्मगीता)
इस प्रकार श्रीमह्या भारत शान्तिपर्वके अन्तर्गत राजधर्मानुशासनपर्वमें व्यासवाक्यविषयक सत्ताईसवाँ अध्याय पूरा हुआ
dṛśyate hi yuvāivēha vinaśyan vasumān naraḥ | daridraś ca parikliṣṭaḥ śatavarṣo jarānvitaḥ ||
因为在此世间可见:富者亦可能在青春之时便夭亡;而贫者虽困苦煎熬,却或能活至百岁,至极老方死。此教诲昭示寿命之无常难测,也指出仅以财富或寿长来衡量福分与功德,终属徒然。
व्यास उवाच
Life-span is not guaranteed by wealth, status, or outward prosperity; nor does poverty necessarily shorten life. Therefore one should ground one’s conduct in dharma and inner discipline rather than relying on external conditions as signs of merit or security.
In Vyāsa’s speech within the Śānti Parva’s rājadharma instruction, an observation about the world is offered: the wealthy may die young, while the poor may endure long life in hardship—used to frame counsel toward sober judgment and detachment.
