Adhyāya 262: Śabda-brahman, Para-brahman, and the Ethics of Tyāga
Kapila–Syūmaraśmi Saṃvāda
अकृष्टपच्या पृथिवी आशीर्भिवीरुधो भवन् | पहलेके लोग कर्तव्य समझकर यज्ञमें श्रद्धापूर्वक प्रवृत्त होते थे और उस यज्ञसे उनकी सम्पूर्ण कामनाएँ स्वतः पूर्ण हो जाती थीं। पृथ्वीसे बिना जोते-बोये ही काफी अन्न पैदा होता तथा जगत्की भलाईके लिये उनके शुभ संकल्पसे ही वृक्षों और लताओंमें फल-फ़ूल लगते थे
akṛṣṭapacyā pṛthivī āśīrbhir vīrudho bhavan | pūrveke lokāḥ kartavyaṃ samajñāya yajñe śraddhayā pravṛttāḥ sma, tena yajñena ca teṣāṃ samagrāḥ kāmanāḥ svayam eva paripūryante sma | pṛthivyā akṛṣṭābījāyāṃ bahu annaṃ jāyate sma, jagad-hitāya ca teṣāṃ śubha-saṅkalpād eva vṛkṣa-latāsu phala-puṣpāṇi prādurabhavann iti ||
丘罗陀罗说:在往昔之世,大地不待耕耘便自生五谷,草木亦因祝福而繁茂。古人以祭祀为其本分,怀信而行;由此祭祀,诸愿皆自然而成。即使不耕不播,地中亦出丰粮;并且为了世间安乐,仅凭他们吉祥的誓愿,树木藤蔓便结实开花。
चुलाधार उवाच
The verse presents an ethical ideal: when people perform their duty (yajña) with faith and aim at the welfare of the world, nature and society respond with effortless abundance. Prosperity is portrayed as a consequence of righteous intention, disciplined action, and communal-minded resolve.
Chuladhara describes an earlier age in which the earth produced grain without cultivation and plants bore fruit and flowers through blessings and good resolve. He contrasts that harmonious order with later decline, implying that moral and ritual integrity once sustained both human fulfillment and natural fertility.
