Kapila and Syūmaraśmi on Renunciation, Householder Support, and Epistemic Authority
Dharma is incompatible with being a source of fear and harm to others. If one’s presence makes society recoil as from a dangerous intruder, one forfeits the moral and spiritual fruits of righteous living both here and hereafter.
In the Shānti Parva’s ethical discourse, Tulādhāra instructs his listener by using a vivid comparison: just as a snake inside a home terrifies everyone, so too a person who terrorizes others cannot claim dharma’s rewards.
