The Commissioning of Mṛtyu by Brahmā
aviśeṣāṇi bhūtāni guṇāṁś ca jahato muneḥ | sukhena apohate duḥkhaṁ bhāskareṇa tamo yathā ||
When a sage relinquishes identification with the guṇas (sattva, rajas, tamas), he perceives beings without partiality or hierarchy, and sorrow falls away naturally—like darkness vanishing in sunlight.
In the didactic flow of Śānti Parva, Vyāsa states a principle of liberation: the muni who has abandoned the guṇas attains an undifferentiated, equal vision of beings, and thereby suffering is effortlessly dispelled.
