The verse introduces pratyāhāra as a cosmic principle: at the close of Brahmā’s day, creation is withdrawn, the gross world becomes subtle, and everything is reabsorbed inwardly—mirroring the yogic ideal of turning from external multiplicity to inner reality.
Vyāsa begins a new explanation about pralaya (dissolution), describing the transition from Brahmā’s day to night and how the cosmic ruler causes the universe to contract from manifest, gross form into an extremely subtle state within himself.
