Śakra–Namuci-saṃvāda: Śoka-nivāraṇa and Daiva-vicāra
Indra and Namuci on grief, composure, and inevitability
śruti-pramāṇāgama-maṅgalaiḥ śete jarā-mṛtyu-bhayād abhītaḥ | kṣīṇe ca puṇye vigate ca pāpe tato nimitte ca phale vinaṣṭe | alepam ākāśam aliptam eva māsthāya paśyanti mahati asaktāḥ ||
Scriptural discernment and disciplined practice remove existential fear; when karmic merit and demerit and their results are exhausted, complete non-attachment enables direct realization of the stainless Supreme Self, likened to the sky.
In the Śānti Parva’s instruction section, Bhīṣma continues advising Yudhiṣṭhira on liberation-oriented dharma: he explains how reliance on śruti and śāstra-guided practice leads from fearlessness to the dissolution of karmic causality and culminates in Brahman-realization.
