Adhyāya 159 — Dāna–Dakṣiṇā, Āpaddharma Measures, and Prāyaścitta Classifications
न त्रासिनो न चपला न रौद्रा: सत्यथे स्थिता: । ते सेव्या: साधुभिननित्य॑ येष्वहिंसा प्रतिेष्ठिता
na trāsino na capalā na raudrāḥ satyataye sthitāḥ | te sevyāḥ sādhubhir nityaṃ yeṣv ahiṃsā pratiṣṭhitā ||
毗湿摩说道:不以恐惧加诸他人者,不轻浮无常者,其性不暴烈、不骇人者;为真实而坚定者,且其内阿希姆萨(不害、非暴力)恒常安立者——唯此等高士,善人当常亲近、常侍奉。
भीष्म उवाच
Cultivate and seek the company of people who are truthful, steady, non-threatening, and non-violent; such association supports dharma and moral clarity.
In the Shanti Parva’s instruction on dharma, Bhishma advises Yudhishthira about the marks of truly good persons and recommends constant association with those grounded in truth and ahiṃsā.
