त्रिवर्गमूलनिश्चयः — Determining the Roots of Dharma, Artha, and Kāma
Mahābhārata, Śānti-parva 123
जो सम्पूर्ण जगतको शिक्षा देनेवाले हैं, वे धर्म प्रजापतिसे दण्डको ग्रहण करके प्रजाकी रक्षाके लिये सदा जागरूक रहते हैं। ब्रह्मपुत्र सनातन व्यवसाय वह दण्ड धर्मसे लेकर लोकरक्षाके लिये जागते रहते हैं ।।
vyavasāyāt tatastejo jāgarti paripālayat | oṣadhyastejasastasmādoṣadhībhyaś ca parvatāḥ ||
婆苏诃罗摩说:教化遍世的法(Dharma)从生主波罗阇钵底受取杖罚之权,为护佑众民而恒常警醒。永恒的定志(Vyavasāya),如梵天之子,从法受取此权,为守护世界而不眠。由定志而生威光之力(Tejas),在保全宇宙之时亦常自警觉。由威光生诸药草;由药草生诸山岳。于是,凭着层层相承的支柱,纪律之力不断被承接,以护持众生——在奉事正法与守护公域之中,永远警醒。
वसुहरोम उवाच
Protective authority (daṇḍa) must be grounded in disciplined resolve (vyavasāya) and exercised with constant vigilance; when aligned with dharma it sustains the world’s welfare, linking governance to a wider cosmic order.
In the Śānti Parva’s discourse on dharma and rulership, Vasuharoma explains how the power that protects society stays ‘awake’ and how, in a chain of dependence, elements like tejas, herbs, and mountains are portrayed as successive supports in the maintenance of worldly order.
