The verse highlights moral steadfastness (dhairya): a truly wise person does not abandon inner firmness when tempted. It also warns that when unethical people fail to corrupt virtue through inducement, they may shift to collective plotting—so discernment and vigilance are necessary alongside righteousness.
A highly intelligent person remains unmoved by others’ attempts to lure him away from his resolve. Frustrated, the opposing group (described as 'the others') forms a pact to bring about his downfall and begins acting to fulfill that plan.
