Kurukṣetra–Samantapañcaka Māhātmya: King Kuru’s Ploughing and Indra’s Boon (प्रजापतेरुत्तरवेदिः समन्तपञ्चकं)
तपसोडर्ध प्रयच्छामि पाणिग्राहस्य सत्तम । नारदजीकी यह बात सुनकर वह ऋषियोंकी सभामें उपस्थित होकर बोली --'साधुशिरोमणे! आपमें-से जो कोई मेरा पाणिग्रहण करेगा, उसे मैं अपनी तपस्याका आधा भाग दे दूँगी”
tapasārdhaṃ prayacchāmi pāṇigrāhasya sattama | nāradī jī kī yaha bāta sunkara vaha ṛṣīṇāṃ sabhāmeṃ upasthita hokara bolī— ‘sādhūśiromaṇe! āpameṃ-se jo koī merā pāṇigrahaṇa karegā, use maiṃ apnī tapasyā kā ādhā bhāga de dūṃgī’ |
毗湿摩波耶那说道:“我将把自己苦行所得功德的一半,赐予那位最贤善、愿执我手而成婚之人。”闻此言,那罗陀之女步入仙人集会,宣告道:“诸德之冠冕啊!你们之中谁若受我之手,我便将我苦行之果的一半赠与他。”
वैशम्पायन उवाच
The verse highlights a dharmic view of marriage as a partnership in spiritual life: the speaker offers to share the fruit of austerity with the one who accepts her hand, emphasizing shared responsibility and merit rather than mere social or material gain.
A woman identified as Nārada’s daughter appears before an assembly of sages and announces that whoever among them marries her will receive half of her ascetic merit; Vaiśaṃpāyana narrates this declaration.
