The Search for Duryodhana at Dvaipāyana Lake

adya tvam iha viśrāntaḥ śvo 'bhigantā yudhiṣṭhiram | etāvad uktvā vacanaṃ viduraḥ sāśrulocanaḥ ||

Educational Q&A

Even in crisis, wise counsel begins with humane care: rest, composure, and timing. Vidura’s tearful restraint underscores that dharma is not merely rule-following but compassionate discernment amid sorrow and moral complexity.

Sañjaya reports that Vidura tells the addressed person to rest for the day and to go meet Yudhiṣṭhira the next day. Vidura then stops speaking, his eyes filled with tears, indicating deep emotional strain in the war’s aftermath.
