Educational Q&A

The verse highlights the intensity of kṣatriya warfare: skill and determination manifest as overwhelming force. Ethically, it points to the tension between duty in battle and the tragic escalation of violence that characterizes the Kurukṣetra conflict.

Sañjaya reports that Bhīma showers the king with eighty arrows, severely assailing him. In the immediate context of the chapter’s battle description, this contributes to the cumulative pressure on Duryodhana by multiple Pāṇḍava fighters.
